AUSTIN, Texas — A Delta flight scheduled to fly to Austin from Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta Wedensday was delayed due to a threat made on social media, according to airline officials.
- Delta flight to Austin grounded
- Due to alleged social media threat
- Passengers put on different plane
In a statement, Delta said "Flight 2234 was delayed Wednesday evening due to a threat issued via social media. Out of an abundance of caution the aircraft was taken out of service prior to boarding for a security search by law enforcement. "
The Atlanta Police Department said the aircraft was isolated, and all passengers were de-planed. An all-clear was given following the security sweep and the airport resumed normal operations.
Passengers were put on a different plane, which landed in Austin at 10:33 p.m.
One of the passengers, John Morgo, said the flight was pushed back every half hour, and the airline was tight lipped about the situation at first. Morgo was especially concerned because he works for Georgia State University, which is supposed to play against Texas State on Thursday.
However, when Morgo found out what was going on, he appreciated Delta's actions to keep passengers waiting.
"If security was the issue then Delta had every right to do what they did. We're actually grateful they took every precaution because we'd rather get here in one piece than not at all," said Morgo.
