AUSTIN, Texas -- We're just days away from state lawmakers heading to the Texas Capitol to be sworn in for the start of the 86th legislative session.

The 140-day session begins Tuesday.

While many new members will take the oath of office, several outgoing lawmakers say they'll continue to be part of the conversation.

Round Rock Republican Larry Gonzales resigned last year after serving four terms in the Texas House. The person replacing him is Democrat James Talarico who won in November.

While the two come from opposite sides of the political aisle, there's a lot they say they agree on including school finance reform.

“What I like about what’s happening now is we’ve got these members who understand it’s time,” Gonzales said.

“Because District 52 is such a microcosm of the state, that if there’s a solution that comes forward that I can vote for from our district, that’s going to be a good solution for the whole state,” Rep. Talarico said.

District 52 encompasses much of Round Rock, Taylor and Hutto.
