AUSTIN, Texas -- As the year comes to close, Texas’ agricultural community is applauding the Congressional wins over the course of 2018.
After months of debate and negotiation on Capitol Hill, President Donald Trump has signed the Farm Bill into law. The massive piece of legislation reauthorizes agriculture and conservation programs at a rough cost of $400 billion over five years.
The new bill is allowing for the cultivation of hemp in all 50 states. Laramie Adams, National Legislative Director at the Texas Farm Bureau, says this gives the state’s farmers and ranchers a chance to utilize another crop.
“There are a lot of people that are interested in hemp production,” said Adams. “It’s a great tool to have and something else they can grow and market.”
