SAN ANTONIO – Every seat in the AT&T Center was covered in a retro San Antonio Spurs T-shirt on for the team’s first ever “Throwback Night.”

  • Music and themes from '70s to present decade
  • Handed Los Angeles worst loss of the season
  • Popovich reflects on 21 years with team

As the Spurs geared up to face off against the Los Angeles Clippers, music from the '70s up to the present decade played over the court, Coyote had an outfit for each time period, and some fans even dressed in funky threads.

With all the groovy energy in the arena, the Spurs managed to run over the Clippers like an intense Soul Train line.

LaMarcus Aldridge scored 27 points to lead the team to their fourth straight win, topping the Clippers 125-87 for their largest win of the season.

The five-championship franchise under Gregg Popovich has struggled in the past few weeks, lagging in defense and offensive efficiency. Two weeks ago, the Spurs lost by 30 points in three games.

In the last three games, San Antonio has held teams under 100 points while winning the first four games of a six-game homestand.

"Yeah, but we're still going to continue to get better defensively," DeMar DeRozan said. "Talking, communication, but for the most part we're just going out there having fun, playing with a lot of confidence."

Rudy Gay had 21 points and DeRozan added 14 as San Antonio handed Los Angeles its worst loss of the season.

"We're just playing basketball, making it easy on ourselves," Gay said. "We're moving the ball, helping each other on defense. That's what makes it fun, just playing the right way and being good teammates to each other."

Tobias Harris scored 17 points for the Clippers and Danilo Gallinari and Avery Bradley added 15 apiece. Los Angeles has lost two straight and are four of five.

Popovich said the Clipper’s schedule got the best of them, running low on energy during a road stretch, and the Spurs were able to take advantage of that.

San Antonio shot 63 percent in the first quarter in taking a 38-27 lead that swelled as the game progressed.

As the Clippers were in their third game in four nights and without Lou Williams and Luc Mbah a Moute, the Clippers' only lead came in the opening 2.5 minutes of the game.

"I turned to one of the coaches and said, 'Even if we're making shots, we lose tonight because they're just shooting the ball so well,' " Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. "I didn't think we were into them enough. I thought they were very comfortable."

San Antonio held Los Angeles to 20 points in the third quarter, extending its lead to 24 points and enabling Popovich to rest his starters in the fourth.

"In any stat, in any part of the floor, they were just better than us tonight," Gallinari said.

In light of “Throwback Night,” Popovich reflected on his time with the team, having spent 21 years with a franchise that’s been around for 51 years.

“Those who have been here this long, we’re blessed and very grateful to have that opportunity. It feels wonderful,” Popovich said.
