AUSTIN, Texas — Saturday marked 102 years of Bevo as The University of Texas’ mascot.
- First appearance was 1916
- Current mascot almost 4 years old
- Bevo is a celebrity to Longhorn fans
He made his first appearance at the 1916 Thanksgiving Day game against Texas A&M.
On Saturday, fans took pictures with the current mascot, Bevo 15, who turns 4 years old next month.
"This university loves this mascot and I didn't understand that until I took this job, but it's crazy, he's a celebrity out here. See kids and parents act the same way. It's pretty funny," said Clayton Helbing, Bevo’s Handler.
Bevo has become one of the most recognizable mascots in the country.
