WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas – Residents of Williamson County are being warned to lock their cars after a rash of burglaries overnight on Wednesday.

  • Rash of Williamson County car burglaries
  • Suspects are juveniles dressed in black
  • Targeted unlocked cars

Around 2:45 a.m. three juveniles dressed in black reportedly broke into 10 cars in the Paloma Lake neighborhood. Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody said the suspects are believed to have used trails to move through the neighborhood and targeted cars that were unlocked or unsecure.

Items taken from the vehicles included cash, gift cards, laptop, knives, and guns. Anyone who lives in the area with a video camera is asked to check their footage to see if it captured the suspects.

At a second location overnight on Wednesday, Round Rock police reported numerous car burglaries happened within a mile of each other at three different apartment complexes. They include Belmont Place and Apple Creek Apartments at the intersection of Gattis School Rd. and Lawnmont Dr., as well as the Red Hills Villas on A.W. Grimes Blvd.

Investigators say the criminals didn't seem to show any motive, but they definitely had a pattern. Police say they break a window, rifled through glove boxes and consoles, and move onto the next car. Round Rock police say they're tracking down several leads, and they believe these suspects know what they were doing.

"It looks like this is the case—either one person or a group of people were out burglarizing cars,” said Lt. Bob Drawbaugh. “They had their routine down, and like I said, they committed several dozen."

Investigators believe these burglaries are also tied to several other car break-ins overnight in the county. Chody sent a photo of one of the suspects, as well as surveillance video of several other suspects.Tips should be called into the Williamson County Sheriff's Office at 512-943-1313 or to the Round Rock Police Department at 512-218-5500.
