AUSTIN, Texas – The city of Austin is celebrating the launch of a new program that offers employment opportunities to the homeless community.
- Job opportunities for homeless
- Program is at capacity
- Provided with transportation and food
The Workforce First Program was started last month and offers daily employment opportunities, like picking up litter in parks.
The city said the program is at capacity with nearly two dozen people enrolled. Through the program, they have cleared more than 24,000 cubic yards of debris and invasive plants from the city.
Along with their wages, employees get transportation to and from their work, in addition to lunch and counseling services.
