AUSTIN, Texas – A SWAT situation in Central East Austin is over, but police are still searching for an armed suspect who threatened his family.

Austin police officers were called for a welfare check at 1:48 a.m. on Crystalbrook Drive. A family member told police a loved one was assaulted by her spouse.
The suspect was described as armed with handgun and intoxicated. He was believed to be threatening his wife and children.
Officers responded to location and evacuated surrounding neighbors while they attempted to make contact with the suspect.
After calling a SWAT team, they were able to get the wife and children out of the house without the husband knowing.
Hostage negotiators tried to make contact without any violence, but the suspect was not found in the residence.
Officers will remain in the area as the investigation continues.
