AUSTIN, Texas -- Another Austin classic, Frank & Angie's Pizza, closed its doors for good Saturday night after more than 23 years.
"It was something that we loved. We wanted other people to share what my mother-in-law always taught us. Food and Family," said Kim Hutchinson, one of the owners.
Kim and her husband Mike kept that same motto with their customers, often bonding over the love of pizza.
"The outpouring of love that we have gotten from people has just been over the top," she said.
The restaurant is named after Frank Sinatra and the one of the owners' mother, who supplied the authentic Italian recipes. There was a line of loyal customers outside the restaurant before it even opened during lunch time. Many of them have been eating at the place for years and have a personal connection with the staff.
Lisa Burgess visited the restaurant while dealing with the death of her son.
"For a solid week, we came to Frank & Angie's. I got to tell them my story. I got to cry. They brought us great comfort. Every night we would show up and they would have our pizza ready," said Burgess.
She said she will always remember the kindness of the staff.
"That's part of the sadness of them closing because they served that purpose in my life at a sad time," said Burgess.
The restaurant is closing because the owners are partially retiring. They will still run Hut's Hamburgers on West 6th St.
