AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a suspicious package and letter that were delivered to a state representative’s office at the Texas Capitol Tuesday afternoon.
Officers with The Texas Department of Public Safety, including the DPS Bomb Squad, responded to the scene, and a limited area of the Capitol Extension was evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The scene had been cleared after no viable threat was discovered, and the area was reopened to the public.
Rep. Matt Schaefer, TX House District 6, reported via Twitter that his office and others at the state Capitol were evacuated around 2 p.m.
The package was addressed to Poncho Navarez, according to Quorum Report.
