SAN MARCOS, Texas - San Marcos residents Tuesday morning were urged to remain in their homes as police searched for a suspect who ran from officers.

San Marcos police, who were being assisted by Hays County deputies, said the suspect was thought to be in the Saddlebrook neighborhood, on the north side of San Marcos.

About 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, San Marcos Police Department Chief Chase Stapp said the scene had been cleared and that residents could resume normal activity. Stapp said it's believed the suspect escaped from the area and an investigation is ongoing.

City officials via Twitter reported an Austin Police Department aircraft unit was assisting in the search.
