AUSTIN, Texas – Firefighters responded to McCallum High School twice in two days after the theater curtain caught on fire multiple times.

The first fire broke out on Monday around 7 p.m., igniting the stage curtain in the Fine Arts Center. A student acted fast and extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived.

An estimated 40 to 50 students were in the theater at the time of the fire. The damage was estimated at around $600. The cause of the fire was determined to be from the curtain lying across a stage light.

The second fire ignited on Tuesday around 6 a.m. after another stage curtain caught on fire. Crews extinguished the fire and are working to clear out the smoke.

The cause of the second fire and the amount of damage have not been determined.
