SAN MARCOS -- Float Fest’s Keep the River Clean is a river cleanup project that partners with local businesses, employees and volunteers. Its efforts encourage ways for guests to float responsibly, assist with trash pickup.

The Float Fest crew includes river wranglers, canoers and trash divers that hope to ensure a safe and clean zone. Biodegradable-mesh trash bags and trash stations will be available for attendees.

“The San Marcos River is a sacred gem to us and is essential to our community,” Marcus Federman, founder of Float Fest, said.

“Floating the beautiful river is a Texas tradition, yet we want to keep the river alive and clean. We’re thrilled to continue to host fans regionally and nationally, but doing so in a way that is the most effective and sustainable,” Federman continues.

Additional festival efforts include:

  • Cooler Checks that restrict glass or Styrofoam on the river
  • Staff members and lifeguards will assist with trash pickup and tuber safety
  • A "human net" that is made up of four people and will stand beyond the river exit. They will collect any remaining floating debris that might make it past the exit point
  • Cleanup via kayak and canoe
  • Trash divers will do a river bottom cleanup by following the festival. Divers will focus on any remaining debris and anything that sunk to the river floor

Guests are advised to leave important belongings in their car or campsite upon arrival. Personal items taken on the river should be secured so they cannot get lost, sink or float away.
