AUSTIN, Texas -- A new report says the proposed I-35 expansion project is one of the most wasteful in the country.

The TexPIRG Education Fund said the nine projects are expected to cost at least $30 billion.

The I-35 plan is slated to cost $8.1 billion to add four lanes. The report says new lanes would hinder traffic and increase the state's debt.

The report also states that Texas leaders should reexamine proposed highway expansion and invest in road repair and transit expansion.
