MCALLEN, Texas – Police forced a U.S. Senator who tried to visit a McAllen immigration center to leave over the weekend.

Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley carried the incident on Facebook Live Sunday.

He went to an old Walmart location that now houses immigrant children, but was refused entry. The location is run by a private, nonprofit company that operates shelters in Texas, Arizona and California. Police showed up and asked Merkley to leave.

He's been critical of a new Trump administration policy that separates illegal immigrant families.
