AUSTIN, Texas – The City of Austin is recognizing 33 businesses for their sustainable and green efforts to protect the environment.

The Austin Green Business Leaders program recognizes businesses that strive to reduce their carbon footprints, reduce waste, use alternate transportation, conserve water, offer employee health programs and give back the community.

The 33 businesses selected this year will join the 228 establishments already in the program; with more than 40,000 employees. The winners are broken down into platinum, gold and silver.

“Austin Green Business Leaders walk the talk,” said Lucia Athens, the City of Austin’s Chief Sustainability Officer. “These businesses are stepping up by making operational decisions to help Austin in meeting targets for net-zero greenhouse gas emission, reducing traffic congestion, and achieving zero waste. They are true leaders that support a bright, green future for the entire Austin community.”

Big or small, all local companies are open to the program. The green businesses hand-picked for 2018 include a variety of organizations including corporations, restaurants, dry cleaners, florists, high-tech companies and architecture firms.
