SAN MARCOS, Texas – The annual festival that brings thousands of partiers to float the San Marcos River is back on after a settlement deal.
The festival was originally denied a permit, but a settlement was reached on March 15 with a three-to-two vote by the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court, giving Float Fest the green light for 2018.
Tubers will flock to float two-and-a-half miles of the river for the festival on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22. Along with a weekend on the river, the festival also has live musical performances in store for the attendees.
Tickets are not on sale yet and the lineup hasn’t been released, but the organizers promise it’s coming soon. For those who don’t want the party to stop, camping passes will be available to sleep at the venue all weekend.
Not all of the locals are fans of the festival. ‘Don’t litter signs’ are posted surrounding the river, but the community said that doesn’t keep revelers from leaving behind a sea of trash.
Officials have said in the past that their goal is to keep the river clean and leave no trace of the weekend long party.
"We want to keep the river clean and we want to leave no trace, so I think we've pounded that into people's heads and the river going, hey yeah this is what we're supposed to do so we can keep coming back to the same beautiful river more and more,” said Float Fest Marketing Director Anthony Erickson.
