UVALDE, Texas — March 29 marks one year since the Uvalde bus crash that killed 13 people.
In 2017, a pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a small shuttle bus carrying church-goers.
Authorities said the driver of the pickup truck, 21-year-old Jack Young, consumed prescription pills and was texting before the crash.
According to the Department of Public Safety, Young confessed to taking a generic form of Lexapro and the sedative Ambien. A trooper also found marijuana in his truck.
Young has pleaded not guilty to 28 felony charges, including 13 counts of manslaughter, 13 counts of intoxication manslaughter, one count of intoxication assault with a deadly weapon, and one count for the aggravated assault of the only survivor.
Earlier this year, Young appeared in court where his lawyers planned to negotiate a plea deal. However, a deal was reached and the hearing was reset to May 31, 2018.
On the civil side of the case, at least two relatives of those killed in the crash are suing Young.
He is currently out on bond.
