GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas - Float Fest goers may be out of luck this year.

The fifth annual music and river fest was stopped in its tracks on Tuesday when Guadalupe County commissioners voted not to grant the festival a permit.

For the last four years, Float Fest has brought tens of thousands of people to the region. The three-day long festival has always had a home at Cool River Ranch just over the Guadalupe County line.

Opponents to the festival say it attracts too many people, it's too loud, there's too much drinking and creates tons of litter.

San Marcos resident Isabella Lorence says she's disappointed to hear the festival won't make a come-back in 2018.

"People clean up, people do a lot of community service around here, so we deserve a little bit of fun," said Lorence.

The festival's founder Marcus Federman has fired back at commissioners with a lawsuit.

Those in favor of the fest say it's a huge economy booster for the area.

"They would profit from a lot of people coming here, so it's their loss," said Lorence.

But not everyone is condemning commissioners for their decision.

"It makes sense to me," said San Marcos resident David Lee.  Lee says festival goers leave behind trash. "That river's beautiful so I don't want any trash just flowing through it just for some festival. I mean, sure it's fun and all."

Commissioners have until April 2 to respond to Federman's lawsuit.

The county's counsel is working on a written response now.
