NEW BRAUNFELS, TX. - Are we addicted to our devices? That's the conversation after employees at a New Braunfels day care were fired for posting inappropriate videos to social media while they're were supposed to be looking after children.

The content of the videos was clearly inappropriate, but what some New Braunfels parents are more concerned about is the phone use on the job.

"They shouldn't have their phones out in the workplace in the first place," said Patrick Boos.

"Especially in the context of watching children, it's just very easy for something to happen very quickly," said another New Braunfels mom.

A study by Apple says that iPhone users alone unlock their phones an average of 80 times every day.

That could equate to more than two hours of screen time each day.

The twerking day care employees promptly lost their jobs, and the viral videos put Prodigy Learning Center owner Ken Brucks in the hot seat.

He released a statement to us saying, in part:

“At Prodigy, we have always had a 'NO CELLPHONE' rule while employees are on duty. These particular employees chose to ignore this rule, and it cost them their job. These, we believe, were good people who made a series of poor decisions, and left us with no other choice but to terminate their employment at Prodigy. Their actions have created a ripple effect with their fellow teachers, co-workers and administrators, as well as with some parents and families.”

Boos says he does his best to leave his phone in the car when he's spending time with his child, and he would hope that anyone he entrusts with little Axle would do the same.

"You're putting a lot of trust in the day care to watch your kid, and if they're too busy on their phones, then they're not watching the kids. And the kids could fall off the playground or swingset, worst-case scenario break an arm, and you should have been there watching them," Boos said.
