AUSTIN, Texas - Leaders in education, law enforcement, and addiction recovery are scrambling to fight the opioid crisis.

As many as 40 agencies in the region make up the LifeSteps coalition. The group has formulated a two-fold strategy to fight substance abuse. It includes prevention and support.

The agencies share the knowledge they've gathered in their fields to find ways to raise awareness.

One group in the coalition is Infinite Recovery Austin, which is a rehab center tailored to meet specific needs.

"I'm just here to say that there's hope for recovery. My own son was addicted to opioids and heroin and he’s been clean and sober now for nine years," said Gail Zorne, mother of Infinite Recovery's founder Michael Dadashi.

The LifeSteps coalition helps people in Travis, Williamson and McLennan counties.
