AUSTIN, Texas - Austin's longest serving member of the current City Council wants to seek a third term.
But first, she needs voters' signatures to get back on the ballot.
Currently, city council members are limited to two terms in office.
Kathie Tovo was sworn into office in 2011. At the time, she won her seat through a citywide vote.
In 2014, she was re-elected to Austin's new district-based city council.
Tovo says her work at City Hall isn't finished as she continues her fight for a more affordable Austin.
"We were able to increase the budget for programs to end homelessness this last year by just about $2 million. We are exploring an innovative plan for permanent supportive housing, and we have got some other good projects on the horizon," said Kathie Tovo, Austin Mayor Pro Tem.

Tovo must get signatures from at least 3,500 voters to run again.
At this time, no one else has announced plans to run for the District 9 seat.
