AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department unveiled it's Warrior Women 2018 Calendar on Thursday.
The calendar honors the hard work of Austin’s female police officers. The idea was proposed to the Austin Police Association as a way to raise money for charity.
Officers also want to provide a different perspective of what women in uniform represent.
"Just having that capability to have the skills, assets, the knowledge to make sure we handle those appropriately and provide the best service to the citizens of Austin is what encompasses a warrior to me," Lt. Robin Henderson said.
"We looked out there online and said this is never been done. It hadn't been,” Det. Scott Stansfield said. “Everything was kind of objectifying or showing a really soft side, but nothing really showing what they're actually doing.”
Interim Chief Brian Manley feels the calendar will be an excellent recruiting tool. Women make up 10 percent of the Austin Police Department. The cadet class starting next month is 25 percent women.
