AUSTIN, Texas - On Wednesday, the Downtown Austin Alliance, Austin Parks Foundation, and the Austin Parks and Recreation Department came together to recognize donors and celebrate the opening of Republic Square.
The park, located downtown across from the U.S Federal courthouse, is being redeveloped through a public-private partnership between the three groups.
The Downtown Austin Alliance said Republic Square is a unique park for the city.
"It's just being in an urban center and having green space and really enjoying all of the amenities that a green space has to offer," said Dewitt Peart, president and CEO of the Downtown Austin Alliance.
The park is open and free to the public.
An official grand opening is planned for spring of 2018 with the launch of a full service cafe.
