Mary Wasson joined the Spectrum News team in May 2011 after spending time in Kentucky and South Dakota as both a meteorologist and reporter. Mary has had a drive and passion for understanding the weather since she was young. Ever since she and her family were forced to take immediate shelter from an unexpected tornado, Mary has been fascinated with the way storms develop and how to educate the public to learn life-saving safety measures.
Throughout Mary's career, she has become quite the decorated meteorologist. Mary is the proud winner of the 2014 Texas Associated Press Award for Best Weather Anchor, the 2011 Kentucky AP Honorable Mention, and has been given the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval.
In her off time, you can find Mary spending time with her husband, Billy, and her two children, playing with their pups, or volunteering with the RuffTail Runners at Austin Pets Alive.
