JAMESVILLE, N.Y. -- The Jamesville Correctional Facility could soon be under new management.
The facility is currently run by the county. But Thursday, legislators voted in favor of letting the public decide if the facility should be run by the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office.
They voted 13 to 3 to put a proposition on the November ballot.
Those against the move are concerned about the lack in information, and the stability of their jobs.
They're worried they may have to resign and re-apply for work.
"Positively not. We are making management changes at the Jamesville facility. The structure of the department, the operation of the department, the intent of the department all remains intact. So, clearly there's a communication issue,” said Onondaga County Legislator Brian May.
“It's very frustrating, because the upheaval and all this, 'we can't support you,' would not be there if we had the information. Would we still have some naysayers? Most likely, that's inevitable. The fact is if we had this information up front, we wouldn't be questioning our future. What is the plan? It's that simple. What is the plan?" said Jamesville Correctional Sergeant Kathy Zabinski.
A public hearing will be scheduled for a future date, prior to the November election.
