AUSTIN, Texas - The Travis County Sheriff's office welcomed a new canine officer to its ranks on Friday.
Castor is a one year old Belgian Malinois. He just moved here from Poland, and his handler says he's still adjusting to the heat.
He'll be trained in drug detection, as well as human apprehension, which includes helping to find missing children, elderly people or fugitives.
For now though, his training includes getting acclimated to his new world.
"He'll get used to everything. You have to expose them to pretty much everything. Our lead trainer said it best the other day. Imagine a 17-year-old that's going off to the military. That's boot camp. It's a whole new world you have to learn. So, that's where he's at," said Sgt. Deputy Robert Jenkinson.
Castor joining the force was made possible because of a local business, Poop Troops. You can expect to see Castor patrolling the streets this August.
