GEORGETOWN, Texas — Greg Kelley, whose sexual assault case was reopened a little under two weeks ago, arrived at the Williamson County Jail from a state prison Tuesday afternoon.
The move came after a judge ordered him returned to prepare for an upcoming hearing. The re-opening of the case is a result of new evidence.
"We're extremely hopeful that he'll be out soon and we know that it's going to happen we just have to be patient and wait and we trust Keith and we're excited about the new voices in Williamson county that are helping this process move quicker," said family friend Pam Brimberry.
Kelley, a former Leander High School football star, was convicted of molesting a young boy in 2014 and is serving a 25-year sentence.
Kelley’s move to Georgetown will be from the Wynne Unit in Huntsville, where he has served the first 3 years of his sentence.
Kelley's friend, Johnathan McCarty, is under investigation as a suspect.
Affidavits claim McCarty had naked pictures of children on his phone and constantly looked at porn.
McCarty has not yet been charged and is already in the Williamson County Jail related to a series of drug charges — He will undergo a hearing Tuesday afternoon unrelated to the Greg Kelley case.
McCarty's hearing related to the Kelley case is currently set for August 3 -- a date prosecutors are trying to have expedited.
