BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski and his family are in mourning as his son passes away at the age of 25.

According to his obituary, Joseph Zikuski the third had been battling addiction. His family says he loved his Bills and Yankees and enjoyed playing X-Box with gamers all over the world.

Local addiction awareness groups are expressing their sorrow for the family.

They say the problem isn't getting the attention it needs, and is affecting people of all backgrounds.

"This really proves the point that there is no race, no religion, no color, not class of people. It's not the upper class; it's not the lower class of people that are suffering from addiction. It really could be anyone," said Truth Pharm Executive Director Alexis Pleus.

Calling hours are being held Friday afternoon with the funeral to follow Saturday morning.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Binghamton High School varsity football team.
