HAYS COUNTY, TX. - New floodplain maps are up in Hays County.
FEMA has expanded several areas in San Marcos and beyond that are now considered "high risk."
Back in October of 2015, San Marcos was declared a disaster zone. After record rainfall, rivers across the area flooded and about a thousand homes were damaged. Spectrum News spoke with people in the Rio Vista area and they say that some people are still recovering, and some are still without flood insurance.
"The whole yard was just covered with water, surrounding the house. It felt kind of like a moat," said San Marcos resident Anna Martinez.
While the 2015 floods were a first for Martinez, across the street, Ray Stone sais he has been dealing with flooding in this Rio Vista neighborhood since he moved in in the '70s.

"Back in 1998 we had a huge flood. We had 55 inches of water in the back of our house, 48 inches in the front. And we ended up having to tear down the new house and we ended up building a new one, sort of bay house style,” said Stone.
Stone said his neighborhood has never been considered to be in a flood plain, but he did say it is about time. New FEMA maps use red lines indicating areas that are now considered "high risk." Stone said he's happy to see his neighborhood included.
But some questions remain, like whether or not premiums will go up.
