San Antonio is Military City, USA and now has the trademark to prove it.
The city manager last year instructed staff to look into registering the trademark after other cities began using it.
City leaders hope the symbol proves San Antonio's commitment to the military.
Local leaders have been advocating for the right to annex land to better protect bases from encroachment.
Between that and the possibility of base realignments, they say San Antonio must stand firm.
"Remember, it is more than just logos. It is more than just words. When we talk about protecting and honoring the military we must do it with our actions," said State Senator Jose Menendez, D-San Antonio.
The city says the military contributed $50 billion to the local economy last year.
Right now, nearly 10 percent of those who live in the Alamo City are connected in some way to Joint Base San Antonio.
