HAMLIN, N.Y. -- Monroe County sheriff's deputies are investigating a fatal farm accident in Hamlin that happened around 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Brightly's Farm on Redman Road.
Officials say 19-year-old Gino Valle, of Greece, was operating a bulldozer when he somehow was run over by that piece of farm machinery.
Investigators are trying to determine exactly how that happened.
They say the bulldozer continued across the road and struck some gas tanks. There was no explosion.
Valle was rushed to Strong West Hospital in Brockport where he was pronounced dead.
He had only been employed at the farm for six months. His co-workers took the news hard.
"They are, they're very distraught right now and thankfully this is a family farm, so there's a lot of family inside, so they have some good support," said Capt. Jeff DelGudico, Monroe County Sheriff's Office. They're going to have to rely on each other to get through this."
Hilton Central School District released a statment saying:
"Staff and students of the Hilton CSD were saddened by the news of the tragic passing of Gino Valle (Hilton High School Class of 2016).
'Gino was a very friendly student who was deeply cared about by members of our school community,' said Hilton High School Principal Brian Bartalo. 'He loved the outdoors and being with his close friends, especially enjoying sports and activities like fishing. Gino will be missed.'
We extend our deepest sympathy to all involved in this tragic accident.
Hilton School District counselors are available to speak with students, families and staff. Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s counselor at any time."
