GEORGETOWN, Texas — A rally for Greg Kelley was held Thursday night in Georgetown.

A little over a week ago, the Williamson County District attorney re-opened the sexual assault case that sent the former high school football star to prison.

Authorities say they found new evidence and named a new suspect.

In 2014, 19-year-old Greg Kelley was convicted of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old child at an in-home daycare center.

Kelley, who has denied the allegations, was a Leander High School football player.

His arrest and conviction divided the community with many supporters calling for a new trial.

The case against him was built largely on the testimony of the child.

After he was found guilty, Kelley, who faced up to life in prison, accepted a plea deal which sent him to prison for 25 years.

Under that deal, he gave up his right to appeal unless there was new evidence.
