For the fifth time since 2011, Ballston Spa High School has been named one of America’s most challenging. Matt Hunter reports.
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. – A Saratoga County school has received another honor, ranking it among the nation's best and most rigorous. For the fifth time since 2011, Ballston Spa was named as one of "America's Most Challenging High Schools" by the Washington Post, joining Burnt Hills as the only other local school to receive the honor this year.
With partnerships with approximately a half-dozen colleges that allow students to receive college credit while still in high school, district administrators say they're able to better prepare students for the next step in their education. For students not interested in pursuing college, they've developed more technical and vocational pathways designed to help students jump-start their careers.
"That is what it's about is serving all of our kids and making sure that we have courses here that keep them interested and engaged. I feel we've really upped our game in the last couple of years to do that,” Ballston Spa High School Principal Kristi Jensen said Thursday.
More than 2,300 schools received the annual honor from the Washington Post, representing about 12 percent of the country's districts.
