AUSTIN, Texas — The Boone Elementary School teacher who was on leave during a sexual abuse investigation will be reinstated.

The Austin school district made the announcement Tuesday at an event recognizing the hard work of staff members over the past year.

AISD and the teacher were under scrutiny after allegations of a sexually abused student at Boone surfaced last month.

Travis County District Attorney Margaret Moore said in a statement that her office, in conjunction with the child protection team, that there is insufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges, closing it last Friday.

Earlier this month, the child's family filed a Title IX lawsuit against AISD, claiming it had deprived the student of educational opportunities.

At least two families from other schools have come forward, saying their children were also abused.

Those original cases were also closed and did not end in any arrests.

AISD officials also announced a new student safety initiative, which it will discuss with parents at a meeting tomorrow at Boone Elementary.

The district says the three main points include more training on the educator code of ethics, appropriate student and employee relationships and reporting child abuse and neglect.
