A hospital in Elmhurst sets out to prove that anyone can save lives.

New York City Health and Hospitals Elmhurst held a blood drive Saturday.

Donors started with a quick check up and then got to give blood.

Once they finished -- they got to check out different resources in the community and abroad.

Organizers say its important to encourage everyone to donate -- regardless of their background.

"We don't care what country or where you come from as long as you want to do a good deed," said Aydee Trimino with NYC Health and Hospitals in Elmhurst.

"It's a very selfless act to do. Uh, by helping people in the community. It doesn't cost you anything," said donor Patricia Cabrera.
