WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- What's the best place to become a nurse? Well, it looks like Jefferson Community College may be your best bet.
The college's registered nursing program was ranked number one in the state by RegisteredNursing.com. Ninety-nine programs across New York were analyzed.
JCC won the top spot for having the highest passing rate for the NCLEX, an exam students take to get certified as a nurse. In the past three years, 100 percent of graduates passed the exam on their first attempt.
Students say it's because the program is intense, but very helpful.
"It makes you work and think critically. You can't just memorize answers and think that you're going to be successful, but it's all worth it in the end," said nursing student Lynn Reichert. "By your senior year, you're putting it all together and making sense of it."
"Our nurses know what they're doing when they get out," said assistant nursing professor Julie Roy. "They're not experts, but they have the skill set in order to do entry nursing as a registered nurse. It makes us feel good that we're proud of the people that come out of this program."
If you're interested in joining the nursing program, JCC is hosting an info session on Tuesday, April 25 at 4 p.m in the Gregor Building.
