AUSTIN, Texas - The Central Texas Food Bank opened its doors on Monday to four semi-trucks packed with donated food.
It's all part of the annual Souper Bowl of Caring.
H-E-B supermarkets delivered 160,000 pounds of peanut butter, canned vegetables and brown rice, among other needed items. The food was paid for by shoppers who donated at stores throughout the region.
The month-long fundraiser is an important part of the food bank's mission to feed the hungry.
"The Souper Bowl of Caring is an incredible partnership that comes together to support our Central Texas community. It's amazing. 1 in 4 children in at risk of hunger in Central Texas, so having an event like this makes a huge impact," said Mark Jackson, chief development officer for Central Texas Food Bank.
This is Souper Bowl of Caring's tenth year.
Other supermarkets that donated include Randall's and Central Market.
