SAN ANTONIO -- City of San Antonio Animal Care Services says a young crocodile-type creature was found Wednesday morning in a dirty aquarium on a property off Commercial Avenue.

The animal, which Animal Care officers say was freezing to the touch and unresponsive, was found in a glass tank filled with dead fish behind a vacant house.

The city says the baby crocodilian appears to be a Caiman, a carnivorous reptile which can grow up to 5 feet long at maturity.

While juveniles will feed mainly on insects and crustaceans, adults do hunt fish, amphibians, birds and other reptiles.

According to the city, Caimans, like all crocodilians and alligators, are prohibited in San Antonio and Texas Fish and Wildlife laws strictly regulate their hunting and possession.
