A hip hop artist whose "Genesis" was in Long Island City gets a new mural in his honor.

Local artists put the finishing touches on the piece dedicated to Nas earlier this week. The mural is on 21st street and 40th Avenue. The musician and entrepreneur grew up in the Queensbridge Houses across the street.

Artists hope that this mural showcasing someone successful from the community will inspire others in the neighborhood.

"Nas has always, you know, someone that's always been about Queens and Queensbridge and, you know, we pay homage and tribute to him. We definitely wanted to speak out to the community as well," said Eli Lazare, the Co-Curator.

"Just inspire the next generation, the older generation, our generation to push for their dreams," said Lawrence "MYSE" Hosannah, the Artist.

A ramen shop down the street also named their latest dish the "Queens-matic" after his 1994 album "Illmatic."
