AUSTIN, Texas – More than 1,300 new graduates took that memorable walk across the stage at the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday.

Western Governors University’s Texas branch held its fall commencement ceremony with keynote speaker Manny Flores, CEO of Austin-based branding agency LatinWorks.

Austin resident Jose Victorino was among the student speakers at the commencement. Victorino earned a Bachelor of Science degree in IT security and is nearing his Master’s in Cybersecurity Assurance.

Students from all across the state made it for Saturday’s graduation.

WGU Texas says their student body is wide-ranging in demographics, but older adults are increasingly turning towards higher education.

They said 93 percent of their 2016 graduates are 27 or older; the average age of this year’s graduating class is 40, and their oldest graduate this year is 73.
