TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas -- Emergency crews in Travis County said they pulled a teenager to safety after he nearly drowned at Hamilton Pool on Friday.

Paramedics then hoisted the boy up into StarFlight and transported him to University Medical Center Brackenridge.

Austin/Travis County EMS responded to the scene after reports that the teenaged boy was under water.

He was swimming, went under and never came back up.

When the boy was pulled from the water by bystanders, he wasn't breathing, authorities said.

Good Samaritans at the scene started CPR until EMS crews could arrive.

When EMS took over, they were able to regain a pulse. That's when they called in StarFlight and flew him out of the area.

There is no word on his current condition.

Hamilton Pool Preserve is a historic swimming hole which was designated a preserve by the Travis County Commissioner's Court in 1990.

There are no lifeguards on duty at the park.
