A former Queens District Attorney died on Sunday at the age of 86.
John Santucci served as the Queens District Attorney from 1977 to 1991 but was a public servant in several other roles as well.
During his career he was also a member of the New York City Council and the New York State Senate, according to his family.
Santucci left behind a legacy at the District Attorney’s office.
Under his leadership the office became the first in the entire New York to use DNA evidence.
His office was also the first in the nation to have a Special Victims Bureau, according to a press release on his death.
Santucci leaves behind his wife of 62 years, their 6 children and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at Fairchild Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, NY.
A funeral will be held Thursday morning at St. Anne's Church also in Garden City.
