ALBANY, N.Y. --  Growing up in Albany's South End, these streets were home to Robert Forezzi.

The old Engine No. 5, that was his playground.

"I'm biased because he's my dad, but I thought he was the best leader I've ever seen," Robert Forezzi, Jr. said.

Now, almost a year after his passing, a psychical reminder in the form of a plaque on a fire boat, that will carry on his legacy.

"It was one of the great things he did before he retired, he wanted to get it accomplished," Forezzi, Jr. added.

Marine 1 had been a goal of the Albany Fire Department since the early 1980's.

"In the 90's same thing happened. We tried to get a boat, whether it was a row boat or a canoe, we wanted some type of craft that could help us to rescue citizens on the river or help us fight fires," Albany Fire Department Chief Warren Abriel said.

However, it wouldn't be until the summer of 2013, before Forezzi's retirement that a port security grant would allow the AFD to purchase the 36 foot fire boat.

"They can assist in rescues, evidence retrievals and it has a state of the art sonar," Abriel said.

Before a large gathering of loved ones, colleagues and law makers both past and present, those who knew him, acknowledge this man's efforts.

"He was taken from us too soon," Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said.

"Bobby, we miss you buddy," Former Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings said.

From the waters Marine 1 will proudly patrol, to the streets he once served, the memory of Robert Forezzi Sr. will continue to live on.

"People still feel love for him every day. I know there's not a day that doesn't go by that I don't miss my dad," Forezzi, Jr. said.
