COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. -- The number of things to see and experience while visiting Cooperstown during the summer season is endless and the best way to get to them all is by trolley.

"They have several stops on Main Street, they go out to the Farmer's Museum and Fenimore Art Museum just like we just did. They stop at the Otesaga and the Baseball Hall of Fame, so it's pretty much an internal Cooperstown loop," said Deb Taylor of Otsego County Tourism.

The trolleys run all day long during the summer months, stopping at most of Cooperstown's biggest attractions. The only downside is, they don't have scheduled stop times.

"Visitors to the area were frustrated. They'd be at a stop and they wouldn't know how much longer it'd be before the trolley arrived," Bernie Bus Regional Manager Peggy Bush said.

On Wednesday, trolley leaders unveiled the answer to their problems; a website which tracks the trolleys using a newly installed GPS system called FollowTheTrolly.com

"Often times they get caught up in traffic, so going on the website you can see where the trolleys are in the streets and it's actually kind of fun just to watch them crawl around," said Taylor.

"People should actually be able to spend a few extra minutes in the stores or museums because they'll know exactly when the trolley's going to arrive," said Bush.

The website also gives local businesses advertisement opportunities.

"I think areas outside the heart of Cooperstown would benefit very much by being there and then visitors have a way of knowing that they exist," Taylor said.

To help avoid traffic congestion in downtown Cooperstown, local leaders are asking the public to park in the three designated lots just outside the village and utilize the trolley systems during the day.

Trolleys will begin picking up riders at the designated stops this weekend.
