AUSTIN—The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force announced Tuesday it's opening a new office in Caldwell County.
The task force pairs U.S. Marshals with local law enforcement agencies to serve warrants on wanted criminals. The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is based in Austin, but law enforcement officials say it's expanding south to keep up with growing populations. Local police and sheriff's officials said they're happy to have the extra support.
"We have to call on them from time to time and they've always been there for us," Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler said. "They've got a lot to offer. And we're excited because they're going to be right next door."
Officials said the expansion will provide needed resources to help arrest criminals hiding out in rural communities south of Austin.
