HELOTES -- Hail pounded Greater San Antonio overnight, with the worst of it hitting Helotes.
Golf ball sized hail, baseball sized hail, it was like a sporting goods store falling out of the sky.
Damage there is extensive.
The Helotes Police Department has eight cars damaged from Tuesday night's storms. Hail severely damaged six patrol cars and a couple other unmarked units.
City employees are looking through the buildings, too, to make sure other damage is minimal. They say it's tough on a such a small police force.
"It takes a toll on the budget. And sometimes, it maxes it out or we go in the negative. So, but we do what we have to do to keep on patrol and make sure we are still out there keeping our citizens safe,"said Sgt. Donnie Palacios of the Helotes Police Department.
While the department has insurance, unexpected costs never come easy.
