Local leaders are pushing for the renovation of a 76-year-old police station in Elmhurst.

U.S. and state lawmakers gathered outside the 110th Precinct stationhouse on 43rd Avenue on Thursday to call for a $70 million upgrade to the facility.

The precinct responds to calls in Corona and Elmhurst, and that's why officials say they also want to see a satellite NYPD station open up in nearby Flushing-Meadows Corona Park.

They say the precinct needs a radical makeover to keep up with the growing neighborhood.

"This station needs to be modernized to get up to date. This building hasn't been touched since the 1940's," said State Senator Jose Peralta of Queens.

"We want our police officers to have the most modern equipment, the most modern setting that they possibly can have today," said Rep. Joseph Crowley, whose district covers parts of the Bronx and Queens.

Those in attendance would like to see the funding for the renovations secured by 2018.
