Williamson County District Attorney Jana Duty has been sentenced to 10 days in jail.

A judge found Duty guilty of contempt of court for speaking to the Austin American-Statesman about a murder case.

She also has to pay a $500 fine.

According to the Statesman, visiting Judge Doug Shaver concluded after a Thursday hearing that Duty violated a gag order in the Crispin Harmel murder case.

Harmel is facing a retrial in the 2009 death of Jessika Kalaher in Cedar Park.

Duty says she didn't speak to the reporter on the facts of the case.

Her attorney says Duty plans to appeal.
