The Austin Fire Department got a special delivery Tuesday.

The Austin Junior Forum delivered 300 stuffed Dalmatians that will be given to children after a fire.

The forum is a nonprofit volunteer organization that supports women, children and the elderly in Austin. It raises funds every year to purchase special gifts.

The fire department says the animals are a real comfort to children during a crisis situation.

"They can pull that out of their truck or they'll pull that out of their bunker coat and give it to some little kid,” Austin Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr said. “Just to see that smile, you know, just something to ease them. I mean, here's the child that maybe has lost everything in a fire, and we can give them something."

The fire department also took the time Tuesday to honor four of its outstanding members.
